United Counties Football League

The United Counties Football League was formed in the 1895/96 season as the Northamptonshire Junior League. It changed name to the Northamptonshire League the next season and again to the United Counties League in the 1934/35 season. Initially the league only covered Northamptonshire, but now covers the southern half of the East Midlands from Nottingham to Northamptonshire. The United Counties League now sits at step 5 of the Non League Pyramid.
Teams from Market Harborough appeared in the league sporadically up until the 1950s, and there were no Leicestershire teams at all between 1954/55 and 2009/10.
From 2010/11 Leicestershire teams started to enter the United Counties League as their step 6 league, and as the league’s borders shifted northwards more Leicestershire teams joined as the league expanded.
